Honor & Sacrifice
Who We Are
The Buckley Air Force Base Mile High Honor Guard serves to honor those who have sacrificed serving their country, rendering military honors for deceased active-duty members, retirees, and veterans. As a team of 15 personnel, we conduct over 500 funerals and over 100 civic and color guard events annually. Our Area of Responsibility covers over 3000 square miles within Colorado and encompasses 4 major counties, Adams, Arapahoe, Denver and Jefferson.
Military Funeral Honors
Honorably discharged United States Army Air Corps, United States Army Air Force and United States Air Force veterans, retirees and active duty personnel are eligible to receive military funeral honors. Please fill out the military honors request form located in the documents section below as well as provide the members DD214 or discharge paperwork.
Retirement & Promotion Ceremonies
When not performing funeral honors, the Buckley Air Force Base Mile High Honor Guard is available to post and/or present colors for eligible retirement and promotion ceremonies.
For retirements, the Mile High Honor Guard will perform details for any enlisted or officer rank of with the understanding that Military Funeral Honors take precedence over all other ceremonies. Additionally ceremonies for Chief Master Sergeants and Colonel – General take precedence over all other ranks. All over ceremonies will be scheduled based on time of request.
For promotions, the member being honored must be promoted to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, Colonel or above, or SES. Once again these ceremonies are scheduled with the understanding that Military Funeral Honors take precedence over all other ceremonies.
Presenting of Colors in the Community
Non Military Related Special Events & Community Service
When not performing funeral honors, the Buckley Space Force Base Mile High Honor Guard is available to support special events that occur throughout the community (non DoD/Military). Military Funeral Honors take top priority and no community events can be supported if there is conflicting funeral honors. The presentation of the colors may be requested for events such as (but not limited to) military reunion/recognition dinners, military recruiting events, or even sporting events. Please keep in mind that any community related events are subjected to review, and must be open to the public. For Non Military events only, please provide a DD Form 2536 along with the color guard request form. The information on the DD Form 2536 is required to evaluate the event for appropriateness and compliance with DoD policies.
The posting request form must be submitted 14 days in advance and must be approved by the Mile High Honor Guard Superintendent. The posting request form and DD Form 2536 can be located in the documents section below.
